Frederick Ping 1902 – 1977. A great champion of Ping’s work was John G. Garratt whose books on model soldiers admire his work. Ping started modelling soldiers in the 1930s, and by the 1950s had established himself as a notable English maker. The figures are scratch built and stand on 2mm thick stands. Ping’s work is unusual because his interest encompassed widely differing periods. During the 1960’s Ping produced ‘Courtenay-Pings’ using the original Courtenay moulds, which were sold exclusively through Hummel House of Miniatures in Burlington Arcade, London.
